For a few years now the relations bertween Israel and Turkey have been worsening by the day
Two friendly countries became enemies with the capturing by Israel of the Turkish ship MAVI MARMARA in 2010, which was leading a flotila of boatss with aid to Palestine. 10 people died in the operation and since then there has been an exchange of warnings from each country culminating to threats of war and invasion. Fuelled by Israel's war on Hamas, Turkey started an anti-Israeli rhetoric with President Erdogan's announcements such as: just as Turkey acted militarily in Karabakh and Libya, “it will do the same to Israel,”
There has been a lot of speculation on what might happen next. Israel is poised to confront Turkey, which if it happens on the field (war), will bring unknown concequenses to the stability of the East Mediterranean. It's becoming obvious that Turkey is trying to fill the void that will be left by the impending defeat of Iran as a leader of the Muslim world in the Middle East, which makes it a red flag for Israel.
The war has already begun. Both countries name each other as the enemy and they have cut off trading between them. Israel bombards Turkish consingments of weapons to Syria as soon as they are deployed. This points to the certainty that Syria will be the battlefield of the two countries. After the downfall of Iran, Turkey is fast becoming the main contender for the hegemony of the Muslim world. This is something that Israel and by extrapolation the USA, cannot accept. The machines are in motion for a complete change in the structure and geography of the Middle East.
The Sykes-Picot Agreement on the Middle East boarders may be due a revamp or re-arrangement. Turkey is not favourable to such development as it has its own plans for dominating the area of the eastern Mediterranean as can be seen by actions in Libya and Syria. The obstacle in this is the alliance between Israel Cyprus and Greece. These countries have formed an axis of defence which is fast becoming a forbiding factor on Turkish plans.
Israel has proven to be a formitable force especially after the six day war against Egypt, Syria and Jordan in 1967 and the recent war against Iran.
Greece is modernising and reorganising its defence dogma with incredible speed. Its defence capabilities are upgrated yearly to provide an unpenetrable wall, its air force is fast modernised with the addition of Rafale planes, F-16 Viper planes and soon with F-35s the NAVY is upgrated with ultra-modern FDI frigates which are capable of patrolling and defending the East Mediterranean and beyond and in the Army the new dogma dictates one solder-one drone. The Greek defence industry now produces 4000 FPV drones yearly. Greece needs this change as it faces existential threat of invasion by Turkey. Greece has to protect its territorial waters and eventually expand them to 12 miles in the 3,000 year Greek Aegean.
Turkey will have a mountain to climb if it wants to realise its plans.
Will the West allow it to do so?
Turks; hands off our Aegean
